CRITICAL LINE
SERVICE 01 · DISCOVERY

A POTS line audit that finds every line and what it touches.

A carrier bill lists charges. It does not tell you that one of those charges is the path behind an elevator emergency phone, a fire-alarm communicator, a gate call box or a security dialer nobody has touched in years.

Discovery closes that gap: bills, carrier records, notices, site walk-downs and endpoint tracing, assembled into one inventory of lines, endpoints and dependencies. Unknown line purpose is expected; that's what Discovery is for.

You cannot responsibly replace what you have not identified.

The dangerous question is not “Do we still have POTS?” It is “Which critical systems still depend on it, and what happens when that path changes?”

Plenty of vendors will audit a bill. Discovery is the beginning of a lifecycle, not a standalone report: the inventory it produces is what Assessment, Migration and Monitoring are all built on.

What the audit produces.

ONE LINE INVENTORY

Every billed line normalized into a single record, across accounts, carriers and properties.

ENDPOINT ATTRIBUTION

What each line actually serves: elevator cab, fire panel, call box, gate, fax, modem — or nothing at all.

DEPENDENCY MAP

Inside wiring, power, call destination, monitoring arrangement and the vendor responsible for each endpoint.

REMOVAL CANDIDATES

Billed-but-unused lines that can simply be cancelled, which often offsets the cost of migrating the rest.

CARRIER STATUS PER LINE

The service and account behind each line, checked against current carrier retirement activity.

UNKNOWNS, NAMED

Lines nobody can identify are recorded as unidentified rather than quietly assumed safe.

How Discovery runs.

  1. 01
    Start with what you have

An address, a bill or a carrier notice. A perfect inventory is not required to begin.

  2. 02
    Pull the records

Carrier accounts, billing detail, prior notices and existing site documentation collected into one place.

  3. 03
    Trace to the endpoint

Site walk-downs and line tracing connect each service to the device it actually serves, cab by cab and panel by panel.

  4. 04
    Publish the inventory

The result lands in your portal as a record your team, your vendors and Finance can all work from.

Questions we hear first.

What is a POTS line audit?

A line-by-line review of your analog telephone services that establishes what each line costs, what it serves, and whether it can be removed, migrated or must be preserved. Critical Line runs it as Discovery: the first stage of the lifecycle rather than a one-off report.

What do you need from us to start?

An address is enough. Bills, carrier notices and site lists speed the work up, but Discovery exists precisely because most organizations do not have a dependable inventory yet.

What if nobody knows what a line does?

Expected, and normal. Unknown doesn't mean safe — it means it still needs to be identified. Those lines are traced in the field rather than guessed at.

Does Discovery commit us to a migration?

No. Discovery produces the inventory. What happens to each line is decided at Assessment, and some lines turn out to need nothing more than cancellation.

Start at Discovery.

An address is enough. You don't need to know every phone number yet.
