Copper retirement is a communications-path problem, not automatically a panel-replacement problem.

The first question should not be, “Which box do we buy?” It should be: “How does this panel communicate today, and what must remain true after the migration?”

Facilities may own the phone bill. An alarm company may own the panel. A monitoring provider receives the signal. Critical Line coordinates the communications workstream between them.

Questions we hear first.

Does every fire panel require two POTS lines?

Requirements depend on the panel, communication method, adopted code edition and AHJ. We assess the current installation before defining the migration.

Can we use ordinary office VoIP?

Not necessarily. Alarm signaling has specific requirements; we validate the path against the panel, monitoring destination and applicable code before recommending it.

Do we need a new panel?

Often not. Copper retirement is a communications-path problem. We determine whether the existing panel can be preserved before anything is replaced.

When can the old line be disconnected?

Only after the new path is tested end to end and the documentation is complete. Controlled cutover is the point of the process.

Who should be involved?

Usually your fire-alarm service company, the monitoring centre, the building owner or manager, and the Authority Having Jurisdiction. We coordinate the communications workstream across them so acceptance testing is not a surprise.

Can you manage a portfolio?

Yes. Fire-alarm communication is one of the most common reasons a multi-site estate needs a sequenced migration, and it is handled inside Portfolio Management.
